Dr. Rebekah H. Gensure, MD, PhD is a specialist in the treatment of retinal and vitreous diseases, including retinal detachment, proliferative vitreoretinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal vascular disease, and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr. Gensure hails from Pittsburgh, PA, where she graduated valedictorian from Schenley High School. She pursued an undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering at Boston University and graduated summa cum laude with additional departmental and university honors. She completed her MD and PhD degrees at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Gensure’s graduate PhD studies in biomedical engineering were under the direction of Dr. David J. Foran, PhD, with an emphasis in medical image analysis, machine learning, and informatics. She completed ophthalmology residency at the John A. Moran Eye Center / University of Utah. Following residency, Dr. Gensure completed a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Casey Eye Institute at the Oregon Health & Science University, receiving subspecialty training in the medical and surgical management of retinal and vitreous disease.
In her free time, Dr. Gensure loves getting outdoors and staying physically active. She regularly participates in dance and fitness classes, including CrossFit, core training, kickboxing, and Zumba. In the winter, Dr. Gensure spends much of her free time on the ski slopes. Once the weather warms up, she switches to biking and hiking. When she is staying indoors, Dr. Gensure enjoys cooking and baking.
