New Surgeon Specializing in Cornea, LASIK, Cataract and Glaucoma Joins Utah Eye Care Practice
The Eye Institute of Utah welcomes Dr. Zachary J. Zavodni as the newest addition to their team of specialists.
Salt Lake City, UT — The Eye Institute of Utah recently announced the addition of ophthalmologist Zachary J. Zavodni, MD to its team. Dr. Zavodni specializes in cornea, refractive cataract and glaucoma surgery. He performs advanced corneal transplant surgeries including PKP, DSEK, and Intacs®, along with corneal crosslinking for the treatment of keratoconus. He will also perform advanced vision correction surgery such as all-laser LASIK, PRK, ICL surgery and refractive lens exchange.
Dr. Zavodni recently returned to his home state of Utah after completing sub-specialty training in cornea, cataract and refractive surgery at Minnesota Eye Consultants under the direction of Dr. Richard Lindstrom. He attended medical school at Duke University in Durham, NC. While there, he was awarded a prestigious Research to Prevent Blindness Medical Student Fellowship to develop a novel blood assay to predict the progression of age-related macular degeneration. Dr. Zavodni has published multiple clinical book chapters and peer-reviewed research articles and he has presented his research at several national meetings. He looks forward to continuing clinical research at The Eye Institute of Utah.

Dr. Zavodni will be holding weekly dry eye clinics, utilizing the revolutionary LipiFlow® Thermal Pulsation System to treat patients suffering from evaporative dry eye and Meibomian Gland Dysfunction. In addition to seeing cornea patients and LASIK consultations, Dr. Zavodni also performs standard and custom cataract surgery and offers treatment for glaucoma patients. He will have access to the advanced technology available at The Eye Institute of Utah, including the LenSx® Custom Cataract Laser, the WaveLight® Refractive Suite – which combines the FS200 Femtosecond and EX500 Excimer lasers, and the ORA System with VerifEye™. Dr. Zavodni recently joined the team of specialists at The Eye Institute of Utah as a cornea, refractive and cataract surgeon. He received his graduate degree from Duke University and then continued on to complete an internship at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI and a residency at Duke University Hospital. During his post-doctoral training, he was instrumental in developing a blood test to predict the progression of age-related macular degeneration. He also completed a prestigious fellowship in cornea, anterior segment and refractive surgery at Minnesota Eye Consultants. Dr. Zavodni has a special interest in corneal crosslinking to treat keratoconus and he has a strong dedication to clinical research. Dr. Zavodni is available for interview upon request.
